Wong Kok (Char Chan Teng) Restaurant: ss2 旺角茶餐厅

This is the first time we visit this restaurant (although we always pass by). To our surprise, the quantity and the quality of the food meet our expectation.

This restaurant serves everyday value set dinner, from monday to sunday. The main courses are quite tempting, such as: Fried Spaghetti with Prawn and Mushrum, Special Waxed Meat Rice, Spaghetti with pumpkin sauce, Portugese fried rice with bacon, Fried Rice with shreded abalone, Spaghetti with mussel and tomato sauce, etc..

Everyday value set dinner is price from RM11.90, and each set is inclusive of:
1. Borsh Soup,

This soup is simple, just nice, sweet and sour with full of fresh tomato smell.

2. Super big mug of Stocking Hong Kong Milk Tea and fruits,

3. This is the main course (available on Monday and Saturday):

Crispy Chicken with Plum sauce,

The rice is normal, but we like the rich garlic smell in the sweet plum sauce very much!

Other food that we order:
1. Crispy noodle in spicy soup,

The portion of the noodle is super big that it surprises us.

2. Mussel Fried Rice,

This dish doesn't look that tempting from here, but the taste of fried mussel mixing with chopped onion in mayonese is the perfect match!

3. Honey Grilled Meat Rice,

What is Persimmon?

Originally cultivated in China, Japan and Vietnam, it is known as “fruits of the gods”. In Malay, we called it as “Pisang Kaki”. Now it is the season of persimmon, until December.
Before it is fully ripened, it has a bitter, astringent taste due to high level of tannins (the same polyphenols found in tea). When ripe, it is a sweet thick pulpy jelly encased in a waxy thin skinned shell.

Health Benefits:
1. Persimmon is high in fiber, and vitamin A, carbohydrates, natural sugars, and no fat.
2. It has compounds called Shibuol and Betulinic acid, that are known to have anti-cancer properties.
3. Peel of persimmon contains phytochemicals, which may protect cells against oxidative damage associated with ageing.

Tips:
1. Avoid eating persimmon on an empty stomach, especially unripe one, as it may form gluey coagulum that causes intestinal obstruction.

Special way for delicious persimmon meals:
1. Persimmon Pancake, waffles or French toast: Add in chopped or blended persimmons for extra nutrient!
2. Persimmon Salsa: Mix chopped persimmon, tomatillo, cilantro, chilies.
3. Persimmon Salad: Mix cubed persimmon with grapes, pomegranate seeds, cubed apples and kiwi fruits.
